Portugal took the top spot for the second year running in the world travel awards
edition of the World Travel awards was held in Lisbon on the 1st
of December where Portugal took the top spot for the second year running and Lisbon receiving separate awards for best city destination and best city break destination. With Madeira, Sintra and various Portuguese hotels taking home awards as well.
In total Portugal received 17 awards a big jump from the 7 in 2017 and 4 in 2016.
The secretary of state for Tourisim – Ana Mendes Godinho – who received the award for top award, said "it is a great pride to receive this distinction again. Being the world champions in Tourism for the second consecutive year is a sign of Portugal's ability to affirm internationally, thanks to the work of all the Portuguese. Portugal is indeed a must-see destination. This is, above all, a prize for the Portuguese. "
